Oldman Heads into ‘The Backwoods’

Filming on the Spanish/English speaking feature The Backwoods began last Monday in northern Spain’s Basque country under first-time Spanish helmer Koldo Serra and Variety is now announcing that Gary Oldman is set to topline the feature for Spain’s Filmax Entertainment.

On a miniscule budget of $5.6 million compared to Hollywood blockbusters, the shooting is scheduled for only eight weeks on the film which is set in the summer of 1978, and depicts the apparently quiet holiday of a couple of English tourists who travel to a friend’s house in a Basque village, where they find a girl in a cabin in the woods with deformed hands.

The article goes on to say that Filmax recently completed the Calista Flockhart feature Fragile, which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2nd.
