Universal Pictures specialty offspring Focus Features is making their way into the animation business as they are set to back the Tim Burton produced feature 9 from director Shane Acker.
The film is said to be based on Acker’s Student Academy Awards Gold Medal winning short of the same name in which IMDB describes as a film about a rag doll who fights a monster that has been stealing the souls of his people. Variety describes the feature project as a surreal fantasy that takes place in a parallel world where humanity is threatened… sounds about right.
Acker describes the CGI feature as having a “stylized quality” that makes the footage look like stop-motion animation.
Corpse Bride scribe, Pamela Pettler, has been brought aboard to pen the script.
