Parker Cast ‘Into Butter’

Production Weekly has some news on Sarah Jessica Parker‘s next project. C’mon, you didn’t think she was just going to sit around and collect the TBS royalties did you?

The news is Sarah Jessica Parker is set to topline the feature film Spinning Into Butter, based on Rebecca Gilman’s play. Production is scheduled to begin this September in New York. Set on a college campus in Vermont, the story explores the dangers of both racism and political correctness in America today in a a manner that is at once profound, disturbing, darkly comic, and deeply cathartic. Rebecca Gilman challenges our preconceptions about race relations, writing of a liberal dean of students named Sarah Daniels who investigates the pinning of anonymous, clearly racist letters on the door of one of the college’s few African American students. The stunning discovery that there is a virulent racist on campus forces Sarah, along with other faculty members and students to explore her feelings about racism, leading to surprising discoveries and painful insights.

So Sarah is playing a gal named Sarah, not a huge stretch there. In her defense this seems to not have any of the pithy “Sex and the City” feel. Could be a potential typecasting buster for Ms. Parker.
