‘Tekken’ Picked Up

Almost a year ago exactly Variety first gave word that an adaptation of the popular videogame “Tekken” was in the works for a big screen adaptation now we get word that Steven Paul’s Crystal Sky along with Sony’s Screen Gems are taking the idea to the next level with production expected to begin in late fall with a budget of $50 million.

“Tekken,” as Variety tells it, centers on two childhood friends who enter a worldwide martial arts tournament. As they progress, the pals move toward uncovering a secret that lies within the mysterious Tekken Corp.

Screen Gems has set Charles Stone (Mr. 3000) to direct the picture as he is aparrently a longtime player of the vid and he will also be writing the script with Michael Colleary and Mike Werb, the duo behind the John Travolta and Nic Cage thriller Face/Off.
