West Directing a ‘Stranger’

When all else fails remake an old movie. That has become the motto and the word “stranger” seems to be the catch all this week as we already had the news that a Strangers On a Train remake was in the works and now Screen Gems has tapped Simon West to helm the remake of the 1979 Carol Kane starrer When a Stranger Calls.

The original featured a high-school student traumatized while babysitting by a caller who repeatedly asks, “Have you checked the children lately?” After notifying the police, she is told that the calls are coming from inside the house. Hmmmmm… Scream anyone? Why not do it again?

Simon West was the helmer on Angelina Jolie’s first Lara Croft outing and is currently at work as a director on Jerry Bruckheimer’s “American Crime” pilot over at CBS.
