“One of the first known female serial killers, Aileen Wuornos was convicted of murdering six men and was executed by lethal injection at a Florida State Prison on October 9, 2002. She initially claimed the killings were in self-defense after she was assaulted by customers, but later admitted she had intended to rob and kill the men.

In Monster the beautiful Charlize Theron agreed to a remarkable transformation to portray Wuornos. She gained weight and wore her hair long and greasy: the makeup design also required her eyebrows to be plucked out, dark contact lenses, crooked yellow teeth and a ruined-look to her complexion. Toni G, key makeup artist, created her look and Art Sakamoto made her bad teeth.

Toni G was quoted in an interview:

She’s got this beautiful face, but she’s a very brave woman, because you’ve got to have the weight in order for the jowls to look right … And she let me mutilate her eyebrows, which changes the whole look of her eyes. It’s an hour-long process just to get the skin discolorations and all. You could never do something like that with an actress who isn’t totally willing to go for it.”
