Selena Gomez joined Neighbors 2 opposite Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron and Chloe Grace Moretz
Universal Pictures has today added Selena Gomez to the cast of their now-filming, R-rated comedy sequel, Neighbors 2. According to E!, the actress and pop vocalist was spotted on the film’s Atlanta set. What’s more, the outlet suggests that the film will be released as Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, although this has not yet been confirmed by the studio.
Selena Gomez joins returning Neighbors stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne and Dave Franco with Chloe Grace Moretz (Carrie, The Equalizer) also attached to play a new character. Nicholas Stoller is also back in the director’s chair, writing alongside Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien.
Selena Gomez is arguably best known for her role as Alex Russo on Disney’s “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Her big screen roles range from the Beverly Cleary adaptation Ramona and Beezus to Harmony Korrine’s hypnotic crime thriller Spring Breakers (where she starred opposite frequent Rogen collaborator James Franco). She’ll be back in theaters later this month, once again lending her voice to Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, in the Genndy Tartakovsky animated sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2. Look for it to see release September 25.
The first Neighbors was released in 2014 and grossed more than $269 million worldwide, making it that year’s biggest original comedy.
Rogen and Goldberg will also produce Neighbors 2 alongside James Weaver through their Point Grey Pictures banner. Cohen and O’Brien will serve as executive producers alongside Good Universe’s Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake.
Neighbors 2 will be released on Friday, May 13, 2016. Check back for updates on the film as they become available.
