Post-Apocalyptic Zorro Reboot is on the Way.

Zorro reboot will take the pulp hero to the future

For years, 20th Century Fox was developing a futuristic take on the iconic pulp character Zorro, moving the 19th century-set hero into a future with less horses and more robots. As many projects are want to do, it faded away, never to be heard from again, but now The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the Zorro reboot is back on, albeit under different circumstances.

Lantica Media (Holy Motors) and Sobini Films (the upcoming Miles Ahead) will team up for the film, planning to begin principal photography in March 2016. The film is described as “a post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro…set in the near future but keeps the idea of a masked and caped stranger taking on tyrants.”

“This has been a fifteen year journey filled with ups and downs but it has remained my passion project over the years,” said Sobini CEO Mark Amin.

“Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation,” said Lantica Media CEO Antonio Gennari.

The search for a filmmaker to helm the project is currently underway. You can check out a proof of concept trailer for the now-defunct version of the film at Fox in the player below.

Known for his trademark mask, sword, and signature Z, the character was created by Johnston McCulley in 1919 and has appeared in countless books, novels, films, and television adaptations.
