D23 Interviews: Ginnifer Goodwin and the Zootopia Filmmakers

Interview with Ginnifer Goodwin and the Zootopia filmmakers

At Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California, we learned a lot more about the upcoming film Zootopia, including the fact that international superstar Shakira will voice the character Gazelle, the biggest pop star in Zootopia. She also recorded the new song “Try Everything” for the film.

Backstage, ComingSoon.net got a chance to chat with directors Byron Howard, Rich Moore and producer Clark Spencer, as well as Ginnifer Goodwin, who voices the lead character Judy Hopps, a bunny who has just joined the police force.

In the film, Zootopia is a city full of anthropomorphic animals. Animals live and work together, though things don’t always go as planned. Especially when Hopps meets a criminal fox named Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) and has to work with him to solve a mystery.

Goodwin told us all about her character, and how she’s really a fish out of water on a police force with all different sorts of larger animals and how she’ll try to prove herself. She also told us what it’s like to play a Disney character who couldn’t really show up on Goodwin’s show “Once Upon a Time,” in which she plays Snow White.

The directors and producer revealed a lot more, including what the animals eat in a society where they don’t eat each other. We also learned that there are no apes, birds or reptiles in this town and what that might mean for future films. Will we see a birdtopia sequel?

Check out what they had to say below and let us know if you’re excited for Zootopia, opening in theaters on March 4, 2016. Stay tuned to ComingSoon.net’s D23 Expo Hub for more news and information from the event.
