Fantastic Four Flops with $11.3 Million on Friday

20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four had a weak opening day of just $11.3 million

Things are not going well for 20th Century Fox‘s attempt to reboot Fantastic Four with director Josh Trank (Chronicle) and the cast of Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Toby Kebbell, as it’s reportedly grossed just $11.3 million on its first Friday.

That’s the lowest opening day for a superhero movie since 2012’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which grossed $6.9 million its opening day and is the lowest opening day for any Fox superhero movie including 2003’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck, which opened with $15.3 million its first day on its way to a weak $102 million domestic total.

An $11.3 million opening day (including $2.7 million from Thursday previews) means that Fantastic Four will be struggling to make $30 million for the weekend, and it could be a close race with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation for first place even with it only grossing $8 million on Friday.

As far as the other new movies, Joel Edgerton’s The Gift grossed an estimated $4 million on Friday and is likely to gross $10 to 11 million for the weekend. Meryl Streep’s Ricki and the Flash brought in $2.3 million on its way to $7 million plus, while LIonsgate’s Shaun the Sheep Movie added another $1.2 million Friday and will probably end up with between $5 and 6 million by Sunday.
