Just last week, word broke that, following the tremendous box office success of Universal Pictures’ Pitch Perfect 2, another sequel is in the works. Today, the studio has officially set Pitch Perfect 3 for release on July 21, 2017! Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are already confirmed to headline the returning cast.
Pitch Perfect 2, which also stars Brittany Snow, Katey Sagal, Anna Camp, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine, Hailee Steinfeld, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle and Hana Mae Lee, took the honor of highest-grossing movie-musical opening of all time. Its worldwide box office gross currently stands at more than $259 million.
Kay Cannon, who scripted the first two franchise entries, is working on the script for the third film. An Emmy-nominated writer and actress with a heavy improv background, Cannon is also known for her work on NBC’s “30 Rock” and Fox’s “New Girl.”
The only other film currently scheduled for that July 21, 2017 release date is Luc Besson’s science fiction adventure Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, set to star Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.
Pitch Perfect 3 will be produced by series fixtures Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment and Max Handelman & Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions.
