Legendary Producing Math and Science Documentary

Legendary, in association with Konwiser Brothers Entertainment, announced today that they are producing a feature-length documentary designed to inspire a new generation of American youth to become passionate about math and science. The film will work to inform audiences in engaging ways by showing how these two disciplines impact all areas of our lives from sports, pop-culture, academia, to government, healthcare, technology and entertainment. The film looks to be a catalyst to start a national dialog about math and science and what America needs to regain its place as a world leader in these categories. Currently the U.S. ranks 30th out of 65 developed nations in math, and 23rd in science.

The film is produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull (Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Jurassic World), who is passionate about ending the shortage of America’s math and science talent. Tull sits on the Board of Trustees of Carnegie Mellon University. Kip and Kern Konwiser will write and direct the project, as well as produce alongside Tull.

Noted Kip and Kern Konwiser, “We are honored to be a part of Legendary’s commitment to this critical issue and to tell the stories of inspired people who are changing our lives and our world through their mastery of math, science and technology.”

From rockets to stock markets, many of humanity’s most thrilling creations are powered by math. So why have kids lost interest in it? When students give up on science, they grow up to be only consumers of technology, rather than its creators. For a decade, U.S. test scores in math and science remain flat while the rest of the world advances in these fields. America’s national security, medical community, and technological centers all depend on qualified scientists and engineers to thrive here at home.
