Zoe Kazan Boards There Are Monsters

Atlas Independent, the affiliate company of Charles Roven’s Atlas Entertainment, and Unbroken Pictures announced today that A24 will distribute Bryan Bertino’s upcoming horror film, There Are Monsters, domestically. The film will star Zoe Kazan (Olive Kitteridge, Ruby Sparks), in the lead role of what is said to be an “emotionally gripping and visceral” script.

There Are Monsters focuses on a mother (Kazan) and her terrified young daughter Lizzie who are trapped and tormented by a merciless creature. In the end, only a mother’s protective love, her most primal instinct, can save them.

Released in 2008, Bertino’s debut feature, The Strangers, grossed more than $82 million at the worldwide box office. It stars Scott Speedman, Liv Tyler, Gemma Ward and Glenn Howerton.

Kazan, meanwhile, is best known for writing and starring in the magical drama Ruby Sparks as well as for performances in films like Happymorethankyouplease and What If as well as on the television minsieries “Olive Kitteridge.”

William Green and Aaron Ginsburg of Atlas Independent will produce There Are Monsters with Adrienne Biddle of Unbroken Pictures. Atlas Entertainment’s Richard Suckle will be executive producing alongside Sonny Mallhi. UTA Independent Film Group brokered the A24 and Embankments deal on behalf of the producers.

Production will start this summer in Ottawa, Canada. Embankment Films is selling the feature to international territories at the Cannes Film Festival.
