Variety reports that Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson (Almost Famous, Wish I Was Here) will play the wife of Mark Wahlberg’s oil engineer in Summit Entertainment’s true-life survival tale Deepwater Horizon, based on the deadly 2010 BP oil-rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
This will mark the first time Hudson will appear alongside her father Kurt Russell, who has a supporting role in the film. Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’Brien, and John Malkovich fill out the rest of the cast.
Deepwater Horizon reunites Wahlberg with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg, with a screenplay by Matthew Michael Carnahan. It is currently scheduled for a release on September 30, 2016.
Hudson is currently on something of a career comeback trail, co-starring with Bill Murray and Bruce Willis in Barry Levinson’s Rock the Kasbah, and she is rumored to be playing the plum role of Jennifer Lee Pryor opposite Mike Epps in Lee Daniels’ upcoming Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
