Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Sets Ewan McGregor as Lumiere

The final major role left to be cast, Walt Disney Pictures’ live-action Beauty and the Beast has found its Lumiere! According to a story today at The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor will play the animated candlestick opposite the previously-announced Ian McKellen as Cogsworth. The feature is also set to star the Harry Potter franchise’s Emma Watson as Belle, The Guest‘s Dan Stevens as Beast, Dracula Untold and The Hobbit‘s Luke Evans as Gaston, Frozen and “The Book of Mormon’s” Josh Gad as LeFou, Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s father), Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster.

Eight-time Oscar-winner Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards for the 1991 animated classic, will score the film, which will feature new recordings of the original songs in addition to several new songs written by Menken and Sir Tim Rice. Bill Condon will direct from a script by Stephen Chbosky, and the film will be produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.

McGregor recently starred in Mortdecai and can be seen coming up reteaming with his Star Wars co-star Natalie Portman in the western Jane Got a Gun.
