Ben Mendelsohn on the Rogue One Casting Rumors

Yesterday, ComingSoon.net sat down with the actor to talk about his latest film, John Maclean’s excellent Western Slow West, and we did ask him whether he could confirm these rumors or not.

“All I can say is that I’ve heard these rumors myself and I would be thrilled if something like that were to come to pass, and I can say with all truthfulness that there’s nothing definitive to those rumors. So who knows?” was his response.

Now, mind you, Mendelsohn is an actor (and a great one, at that) and as we’ve learned from talking to other actors signed onto various Star Wars films, they’re very good at dodging the issue when asked point blank about anything related to the franchise… like when we asked Oscar Isaac a few weeks back about whether he might be going to Star Wars Celebration.

With that in mind, we decided to try a different approach by asking Mendelsohn whether he would have to read a full script or know a lot about the character to jump on a “Star Wars”-related film, but even that wasn’t something he could answer.  “I’m a huge fan of it, but I don’t know. I’m not sure.”

He suggested that we’ll probably know whether they came to him for Rogue One and whether he accepted the role soon after it happens.

Look for the rest of our interview with Mendelsohn closer to the May 15 theatrical release of Slow West, although DIRECTV subscribers can watch the movie now On Demand.
