Production Begins on Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon

Space Rocket Nation announced today that production has started in Los Angeles on Nicolas Winding Refn’s (Drive, Only God Forgives) The Neon Demon.

“I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few guys),” says Refn, “to travel beyond ‘The Neon Demon’ where all I see is the wicked dying young.”

Featuring a screenplay by Refn and Mary Laws, the film’s principal cast includes Elle Fanning (Maleficent, Super 8), Jena Malone (Sucker Punch, The Hunger Games Franchise), Karl Glusman (Starship Troopers: Invasion, Stonewall), Bella Heathcote (In Time, Dark Shadows), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), Desmond Harrington (“Dexter,” “Gossip Girl”), Christina Hendricks (Drive, “Mad Men”) and Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix).

“One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women,” Refn said of the project when it was first announced. “Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making ‘Drive’ and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of ‘The Neon Demon.’ This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures.”

The Neon Demon is produced by Space Rocket Nation’s Lene Borglum in association with Wild Bunch and Gaumont.
