Fox 2000 has acquired Jeff Kinney’s best-selling illustrated novel “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” says Variety.
Nina Jacobson is producing the live-action project, which is based on Kinney’s Internet comic phenomenon-turned-bestseller.
The book, which was published by Abrams in April 2007, chronicles the travails of wise-cracking middle school student Greg Heffley over the course of an academic year, as told through Kinney’s cartoons.
The project is out to writers and directors.
A sequel, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules,” hit bookstores this month. The series will eventually contain five books.
