Jason Segel to Write and Co-Direct LEGO Spinoff, The Billion Brick Race

Another LEGO movie is on the way! The Hollywood Reporter today brings word that development has begun on a new big screen LEGO adventure beyond the three previously-announced projects. The new film, titled The Billion Brick Race, will be written and directed by The Muppets and Sex Tape star Jason Segel alongside Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation scribe Drew Pearce!

Plot details on The Billion Brick Race are virtually nil, although the title brings to mind an It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World type adventure. It joins LEGO’s Ninjago, set for release September 23, 2016, The LEGO Batman Movie, planned to hit May 26, 2017, and The LEGO Movie Sequel, which will arrive May 25, 2018.

Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are set to produce The Billion Brick Race with Courtenay Valenti overseeing for Warner Bros.

The original The LEGO Movie, released last year, was directed by Lord and Miller alongside Chris McKay and grossed an impressive $468 million at the worldwide box office.

Segel will soon headline James Pondsoldt’s David Foster Wallace biopic The End of the Tour, starring as the “Infinite Jest” scribe opposite Jesse Eisenberg. Pearce, meanwhile, is also said to be working on an upcoming Ghostbusters film at Sony Pictures, rumored to star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt.
