We’re the Millers Director Adapting Board Game/Comic Series Dust for Lionsgate

The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that We’re The Millers director Rawson Marshall Thurber will adapt the strategy board game/comic series “Dust” into a feature film for Lionsgate.

“It’s a cool spin on a genre that I’ve loved for a long time and it opens up narrative avenues that are just thrilling,” said Thurber. “It’s all my nine year-old fantasies wrapped in one thing, a World War Two mash-up.”

Created by Paolo Parente, the series takes place in an alternate Earth where World War II never finished and evolved into a conflict between three warring factions, including: The Allies with the USA, Great Britain, and France; The Axis with Japan, Italy, and Germany albeit no longer lead by Hitler; and The SSU, a combination of The USSR and China. In the landscape of this war are gigantic combat robots, capable of challenging the world’s most advanced tanks, and powered by a mysterious ore called VK.

The project is set to be produced by Dan Lin, producer of The LEGO Movie. It’s currently searching for writers.
