Jamie Dornan’s first post-Fifty Shades of Grey contract didn’t take nearly as long to sign as Anastasia Steele’s, since The Hollywood Reporter informs us that he will star opposite fellow Irishman Cillian Murphy in true-life WWII thriller Anthropoid.
The film tells the story of the brave Czech soldiers Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš, who were trained by the British and airlifted into Prague in May of 1942 to assassinate ruthless SS leader Reinhard Heydrich, AKA “The Hangman.” The story has been told on film several times before, most recently in Lewis Gilbert’s 1975 film Operation Daybreak.
British helmer Sean Ellis, whose Cashback was nominated for a Best Live-Action Short Film Oscar in 2006, will direct from a screenplay he wrote with Anthony Frewin (Color Me Kubrick). Anthropoid is produced by Leonard Glowinski, Anita Overland and Chris Curling. Krystof Mucha and David Ondricek of Lucky Man Films are co-producers for the Czech Republic, where the film will shoot exclusively starting in July.
Dornan will next star in psychological thriller The 9th Life of Louis Drax and John Wells’ Untitled Restaurateur Comedy opposite Bradley Cooper. He is also expected to return as Christian Grey in Universal’s planned sequel Fifty Shades Darker.
