Jessica Chastain Joins the Snow White and the Huntsman Spinoff

Two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) has, according to a story today at Deadline, joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ Untitled Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff. Although her specific role has not yet been revealed, she joins the returning Chris Hemsworth (Marvel’s The Avengers, Blackhat) and Charlize Theron (Young Adult, Mad Max: Fury Road) as well as the recently-announced Emily Blunt (Into the Woods, Edge of Tomorrow), who is set to play the story’s villain. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who served as a visual effects supervisor on the first film, will be making his feature film directing debut.

Details on the new film’s plot are few, but it is said to feature a story that expands the fantastical world of director Rupert Sanders’ 2012 global hit, revealing how the fates of the Huntsman, Eric, and Ravenna intersected before they met Snow White. Kristen Stewart’s Snow White, however, is said to not be a part of the story.

Chastain, who starred last year in Interstellar, Miss Julie and A Most Violent Year, can be seen coming up in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak and Ridley Scott’s The Martian.

The Untitled Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff is targeting a release on April 22, 2016. It is currently the only major release scheduled for that weekend.
