Jesse Eisenberg Says He Wants to Reprise His Role as Lex Luthor

Variety recently caught up with actor Jesse Eisenberg to talk up his role in Sundance film The End of the Tour, and got around to discussing his role as villain Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. While the actor didn’t open up about the nature of his hair in the film (clearly shaved if we are to believe a recent photo from Now You See Me: The Second Act), he did say he would be open to reprising the character in future Superman films.

“I would love to,” says Eisenberg. “It’s a great group and director, and the most ideal character to play.”

Eisenberg has been rumored for some time to be reprising his role as Luthor in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, but despite his clear enthusiasm for the character our readers might be disappointed to find out that Eisenberg wasn’t exactly Superman Fan Numero Uno growing up.

“No… I never minded him,” admitting that he only recently caught up with the previous films, “just to understand the context of this one. But no, not as a child.”

To be fair, we’re pretty sure Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey probably didn’t have a longbox full of polybagged comics growing up either, and that didn’t deter them from giving a dynamite performance as Lex Luthor.

Starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Jena Malone, Holly Hunter and Scoot McNairy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
