Viola Davis is set to play Mrs. Muller in Miramax’s screen adaptation of Doubt, John Patrick Shanley’s Tony-winning play.
Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman star in the film that was written and is being directed by Shanley. Amy Adams also is in negotiations to star.
Davis will play the mother of a young male student who has piqued what Sister Aloysius, the Mother Superior of the school (Streep), sees as the improper interest of Father Flynn (Hoffman).
Adams is in negotiations to play Sister James, the young nun who has been an indirect witness to the dealings between Flynn and Muller’s son. Production began last week in New York.
