G.I. Joe 3 Targets D.J. Caruso to Direct

Although ComingSoon.net managed to photograph a very early teaser poster at last year’s Licensing Expo, updates on Paramount Pictures’ G.I. Joe 3 have been few and far between. That appears to be changing, however, as Deadline reports that the studio is looking at D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) to potentially direct.

The live-action G.I. Joe film franchise was launched in 2009 with G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, starring Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Rachel Nichols, Sienna Miller, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Dennis Quaid and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Tatum returned (albeit briefly) alongside Lee and Park for the sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, released in early 2013. The followup also stars Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson and Jonathan Pryce. Collectively, the pair of films have grossed more than $675 million at the worldwide box office.

Caruso, also well-known for directing DreamWorks Pictures’ I Am Number Four, is currently working on The Disappointments Room for Relativity Media. Starring Kate Beckinsale and Mel Raido and featuring a screenplay by actor turned Stoker scribe Wentworth Miller, The Disappointments Room hits the big screen September 25.

As revealed last summer, G.I. Joe 3 is being scripted by Jonathan Lemkin (Lethal Weapon 4, Shooter). It is believed that the plot will focus heavily on Johnson’s character, Roadblock.
