Anthony Mackie to Headline Paramount Comedy Make a Wish

Following his superheroic turn this year as Sam “Falcon” Wilson in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: The Winter Solider, Anthony Mackie is getting ready to team up with Justin Simien, the writer/director who made an impressive feature film debut this year with his Dear White People. According to Deadline, the pair are set to tackle a comedy titled Make a Wish, now set up at Paramount Pictures.

Make a Wish, scripted by Zach Frankel, landed on the 2013 Black List of “unproduced” screenplays with the following official description:

A fourteen-year old boy with terminal cancer has one last wish – to lose his virginity – and convinces his reluctant football star Make-A-Wish partner to help him score.

Mackie will headline as the football star, Butchie Jones, with the role of the boy yet to be cast.

It’s still unconfirmed whether or not we’ll see Mackie in this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he’ll definitely be back as Falcon before too long. In the meantime, the star has a wide range of upcoming projects including David Gordon Green’s Our Brand is Crisis, John Hillcoat’s Triple Nine and a still untitled Jonathan Levine-helmed Christmas comedy also set to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen and Lizzy Caplan.

Jason Spire and Robert Teitel are attached to produce Make a Wish with Jason Newman and Jason Weinberg executive producing alongside Mackie.
