Eddie Marsan Boards Untitled Patricia Highsmith Adaptation

Eddie Marsan is the latest name to join the cast of a currently-untitled big screen take on Patricia Highsmith’s 1954 novel The Blunderer. Marsan, who recently starred in Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, joins Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel and Haley Bennett for the project, which is set to be directed by Andy Goddard (Set Fire to the Stars)

The Blunderer was written by Highsmith in between Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr Ripley. Set against a backdrop of early 1960s New York, Walter Stackhouse (Wilson) is a successful architect married to the beautiful Clara (Biel) and leading a charmed and perfect life. But his fascination with an unsolved murder leads him into a spiral of chaos as he is forced to play cat-and-mouse with a clever killer and an over-ambitious detective. Walter’s obsession, his lies and his lust for another woman (Bennett) will collide in a crush of guilt, innocence and, ultimately, fate.

The project, which will hopefully have an official title soon, is now in production in Cleveland, Ohio. The novel was optioned and adapted by Susan Boyd. The executive producers are Sierra/Affinity’s Nick Meyer, Marc Schaberg and Kelly McCormick, 120dB’s Stephen Hays and Peter Graham, Electric Shadow’s Alexa Seligman, Jay Taylor and John Jencks, and Miscellaneous Entertainment Finance’s Joe Simpson.

Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa, along with Ted Hope and Sierra Pictures will produce. Sierra Pictures is financing the film along with 120dB Films and Electric Shadow. Sierra/Affinity is handling international sales of the project and has had great success selling it. CAA is overseeing the sale of the project domestically.
