Christopher Nolan has found a simple way of disproving a wild rumor about his filmography before The Odyssey came out. When confronted about the rumor, Nolan had a surprising reaction.
How can Christopher Nolan prove a The Odyssey rumor was totally false?
Before The Odyssey was announced, the internet was flooded with speculation about Nolan’s next film. One of the most popular theories at the time was that it would be about helicopter pilots, potentially a Blue Thunder remake. Ahead of The Odyssey’s release this month, Nolan officially commented on those rumors. The filmmaker said that he was “bewildered” by them. And he’s got an easy way to prove that they were never true: he doesn’t even like Blue Thunder.
Nolan told The Telegraph, “I have absolutely no idea where it came from. And besides, I was always more of an Airwolf fan.”

Blue Thunder is an action film that follows Frank Murphy, an LAPD air support pilot assigned to evaluate an advanced helicopter capable of immense destructive power. Released in 1983, the film was a commercial success and later spawned a TV series of the same name.
Nolan’s preferred aerial combat property, Airwolf, was a TV series that ran for four seasons in the 1980s. The show also included a powerful attack helicopter at the center of its narrative.
Beyond his current projects, Christopher Nolan has previously spoken about wanting to remake The Prisoner, a British TV series that aired during the late 1960s. The Odyssey director was attached to The Prisoner remake in 2009, but later dropped out of the project. Rumors resurfaced after Oppenheimer’s release, suggesting Nolan was eyeing the project again, but they never came to be true.
The Odyssey releases in theaters on July 17, 2026.
