Jesse Eisenberg is ready to trade melancholy for magic once again in Now You See Me 4. The actor has declared that returning for a fourth instalment of the heist franchise is one of the top items on his wish list.
Why Jesse Eisenberg wants to return for Now You See Me 4
Jesse Eisenberg made it clear that stepping back into the polished shoes of J. Daniel Atlas is more than just a job; it is a genuine source of joy. Unlike many of his intense dramatic roles, playing the arrogant street magician gives him a rare creative high. “Honestly, I’d love to do Now You See Me 4 more than anything else,” the two-time Oscar nominee told TheWrap. “I’ve never felt happier than when playing that part.”
For an actor known for portraying complex, often anxious characters, the role of Atlas offers a distinct form of change. Eisenberg explained that inhabiting the mind of a depressed character typically takes a personal toll, whereas Atlas provides a boost of confidence. He enjoys the physical transformation that comes with the part, noting that it is the only character in which he gets to stand up straight and wear a nicer outfit. “It’s my happiest place,” he added.
The timing aligns with the franchise’s momentum. Eisenberg recently reprised the role in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, which premiered in November 2025, reuniting him with Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, and the rest of the cast.
The series, which began in 2013, follows the Four Horsemen as they pull off large-scale illusions to bring down corrupt power structures. Lionsgate chair Adam Fogelson previously confirmed at CinemaCon that director Ruben Fleischer will return to helm Now You See Me 4 (via Deadline).
While waiting for the project to materialize, Eisenberg remains busy. His upcoming film, The Debut, starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, will launch at an autumn festival before an A24 release on December 3.
However, fans will not see him revisiting the role that made him a global star. The actor seems to have distanced himself from his association with Mark Zuckerberg and has declined to appear in the sequel, The Social Reckoning.
