Casting on the highly anticipated Ocean’s 11 prequel continues to heat up. The Warner Bros. project, which already boasts Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper as its leads, has landed yet another prominent name as production starts to near.
Josh Gad to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper’s Ocean’s prequel
Sources told Variety that Josh Gad has got a significant role in Bradley Cooper’s Ocean’s prequel. Casting has accelerated as the movie approaches production, though representatives for Gad and Warner Bros. Pictures haven’t officially confirmed it. Gad recently played himself in an episode of MCU’s Wonder-Man.
Gad enters a franchise famous for attracting top-tier talent since the original 1960 film starring Rat Pack members Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. The Ocean’s 11 prequel continues that tradition. Oscar nominee Wagner Moura is set to play the villain, while Monica Barbaro has also signed on.
Details about Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper’s Ocean’s prequel are not yet known. However, the former had offered a glimpse during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation this spring. “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents,” she teased. “You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
Bradley Cooper wrote the screenplay and is directing the prequel. He also produces alongside LuckyChap, the company led by Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, Milan Popelka, and Robbie. Executive producers include McNamara, Bronte Payne, Bobby Wilhelm, Jay Roach, Michelle Graham, Lee Isaac Chung, Ashley Jay Sandberg, Gary Ross, and Olivia Milch.
The untitled prequel draws on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell, with Carrie Solomon handling earlier drafts of the screenplay. Warner Bros. has scheduled the release for June 25, 2027.
Josh Gad’s schedule remains packed beyond this heist caper. His upcoming slate includes Space Balls: The New One at Paramount Pictures, sequels to Frozen and Angry Birds, plus the feature adaptation of Oh, The Places You Will Go alongside Ariana Grande. He also recently renewed his overall television deal with 20th Century Television.
