Michael Apted on Directing Narnia 3

Disney and Walden Media made it official on Tuesday that Michael Apted will direct The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and ComingSoon.net caught up with Apted who shared a few words with us about the announcement.

“I’m thrilled to be asked to make the film. It’s something new and a great challenge,” said Apted about taking on the project. Mark Johnson will produce along with Andrew Adamson, who directed the first “Narnia” and is currently directing the second installment. Returning cast members for the third film include Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes.

Filming on “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” will begin in January for a May 1, 2009 release. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian opens on May 16, 2008.

The first installment, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” earned $738 million worldwide.

Apted’s credits include The World Is Not Enough, Gorillas in the Mist, Coal Miner’s Daughter and Amazing Grace.
