Brideshead Revisited at Miramax

Miramax Films has picked up North American rights to Julian Jarrold’s Brideshead Revisited, with Emma Thompson and Michael Gambon joining the previously announced cast of Ben Whishaw, Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell.

Variety says the $20 million adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s classic novel is now fully financed to start shooting in June on location in Yorkshire, Oxford, Venice and Morocco.

Brideshead Revisited, adapted by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock, is set in the years before World War II, when Oxford student Charles Ryder gets entangled with a seductive but troubled family of Anglo-Catholic aristocrats.

Whishaw plays the alcoholic Sebastian Flyte, and Atwell his enigmatic sister Julia, between whom Charles (Goode) is caught in a forbidden love triangle. Gambon will play their father, the dissolute patriarch Lord Marchmain, and Thompson his estranged yet controlling wife.
