Hanway Films Revisits Brideshead

Sales company Hanway Films has boarded Julian Jarrold’s movie version of Evelyn Waugh’s classic novel Brideshead Revisited, which is scheduled to shoot this spring, says Variety.

Casting has yet to be confirmed on the project, which has been in development for several years and come close to production on a number of occasions.

The producers are Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films, who recently worked with Jarrold and Hanway on the upcoming period romance Becoming Jane, starring Anne Hathaway as the young Jane Austen.

Brideshead Revisited is written by Andrew Davies and Jeremy Brock. The novel is the story of Charles Ryder, an Oxford student in the 1930s, who becomes entangled with a family of Catholic aristocrats, first becoming friends with the alcoholic son, then falling in love with the daughter.

The film was announced a couple of years ago with Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly set to star, but they are no longer attached.
