The Marty Supreme cast continues to grow, with Fran Drescher joining the upcoming A24 project as the mother of Timothée Chalamet’s character.
Drescher, who is best known for her role in the hit CBS sitcom The Nanny, which ran for six years in the 1990s, will join the project that already features a large ensemble cast. Not too much about her character is known beyond the fact that she is Chalamet’s mother.
Plot details for Marty Supreme are also being kept under wraps. According to a report from Variety, the film will follow Chalamet’s character, a young ping-pong pro. Outside of that, nothing else is known aside from the fact that the film will reportedly take place in the “world of 1950s ping pong culture.”
Who else is in the Marty Supreme cast?
Along with Chalamet, Marty Supreme will star Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, the Creator. The cast also includes Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary, and Abel Ferrara. The script was written by Safdie and Ronald Bronstein, both of whom are also producing the movie with Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.
Safdie made his feature film directorial debut in 2008 with The Pleasure of Being Robbed. He then co-directed a number of movies with his brother, Benny, including 2017’s Good Time with Robert Pattinson and 2019’s Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler. With the two brothers having decided to explore their own solo careers, Benny is now working on The Smashing Machine with Dwayne Johnson, which is expected to be released in 2025.
Chalamet recently reprised his role as Paul Atreidies in Denis Villeneueve’s Dune: Part Two, which was released earlier this year. He’ll next be seen playing Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biographical drama A Complete Unknown, which will be released on December 25, 2024.
A release date for Marty Supreme has not yet been announced by A24.
