Plainclothes: Hunger Games Prequel Star Tom Blyth to Lead ’90s Queer Drama Movie

The Hunger Games Prequel Star Tom Blyth Talks Potential Return as President Snow

For The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star Tom Blyth, reprising the Coriolanus Snow role would be a “no-brainer.” In a recent interview with ScreenRant, the actor revealed that he’d be willing to delve deeper into the antagonist’s story and the years that preceded his rise to power as Panem’s tyrannical leader.

While promoting the second season of Billy the Kid, Blyth — who starred as the younger version of the character Donald Sutherland famously played in The Hunger Games trilogy — shared that there are far more stories to tell about President Snow.

“It’d be a no-brainer. I feel like I was so fortunate to get to step into that world, and I really love everyone involved: Francis Lawrence, Nina Jacobson, and [The Hunger Games author] Suzanne Collins,” the actor said. “But it would be really cool to keep digging into that story, and I do think fans feel this too. I think they were very excited to reignite the world, and I think people feel like within that reigniting, there’s more to do. There are more stories to delve into.”

He continued, “I do think there’s more to Coriolanus’ story to delve into, whether he’s the lead character or whether he’s a periphery character and we look at someone else’s story. But I think it’d be fascinating to see his continued rise to power and what happens along the way.”

What is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes about?

The prequel, directed by Francis Lawrence, follows the young Coriolanus Snow and some of the events that transpired before he became the tyrannical president from the Jennifer Lawrence-led trilogy. In addition to Blyth, the film also stars Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow, Josh Andrés Rivera as Sejanus Plinth, Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, Peter Dinklage as Casca Highbottom, and Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius Flickerman, among others.

“64 years before he becomes the tyrannical president of Panem, Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he mentors Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from District 12,” the synopsis reads.

There is still no news about the future of the beloved dystopian franchise. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is available to stream on Starz
