The Breed Remake Will Star Shazam’s Grace Caroline Currey

The 2006 horror film The Breed is getting a remake, with Shazam! actress Grace Caroline Currey set to star. According to Variety, Currey will be headlining the project, which will be directed by brothers Sean and Bryan Furst.

The original Nicholas Mastandrea-directed film, which Wes Craven co-produced, will be receiving an “unconventional reimagining,” per Variety’s report. The filmmaking brothers will also serve as the remake’s producers through their Curmudgeon Films company.

Currey is set to portray Violet, “a rebel icon and badass on a mission to search for abandoned dogs on a remote island, which leads to complete adrenaline-fueled terror.” Currey is no stranger to starring in a horror film, having previously starred as Carol in 2017’s Annabelle: Creation. The actress most recently starred as Becky in the 2022 survival thriller Fall and as Mary Bromfield in Shazam! Fury of the Gods

The Breed received mostly negative reviews upon its release

Though The Breed boasts quite an ensemble cast, with prominent actress Michelle Rodriguez having starred as Nicki opposite Oliver Hudson’s John and Taryn Manning’s Sara, the 2006 horror movie about a killer dog did not receive much praise from critics and audiences alike. As of this writing, the film has a 27% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 29% audience score, coming from a total of more than 5,000 reviews. The critically panned feature, however, will be getting a new lease on life with the Furst brothers taking charge.

The 2006 horror movie follows brothers John (Hudson) and Matt (Eric Lively), who both decide to spend their weekend in an island cabin they’ve inherited from their deceased uncle. However, their supposedly relaxing getaway took an unexpected turn when a group of killer dogs started to terrorize them. They soon realize that the island hides a secret facility intended to train dogs that have been bred to kill.

The Breed also starred Hill Harper as Noah, Nick Boraine as Luke, and Lisa-Marie Schneider as Jenny.
