Mercy Photos: Production Begins on Amazon’s Sci-Fi Thriller Starring Chris Pratt

Director Timur Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) has shared the first Mercy photos from the set of his upcoming sci-fi thriller movie with Amazon MGM Studios, confirming that production has officially begun. The Chris Pratt-led movie is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 15, 2025.

Who’s involved in Mercy?

Mercy is expected to take place “in the near future when capital crime has increased.” It will follow Pratt as “a detective [who] has been accused of a violent crime and [is] forced to prove his innocence.”

Bekmambetov is directing from a screenplay written by Marco van Belle. The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Garon, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, and Kylie Rogers. This marks the latest collaboration between Pratt and the filmmaker after previously working together in 2008’s action thriller Wanted. It is produced by Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, Majd Nassif, and Bekmambetov.

“Amazon is the ideal partner for telling this crucial story about the future challenged by artificial intelligence and for engaging in this conversation with a wide audience,” Bekmambetov said in a statement when Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to the project. “I’m happy to reunite with Chris Pratt on this project, who, since the release of ‘Wanted,’ has become one of the highest-grossing actors of our time. Collaborating with Chuck Roven will help us create an epic cinematic experience.”
