We may not have seen the last of Godzilla and Kong. After Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire smashed box office projections with an $80 million opening weekend, future movies in the MonsterVerse could be on the horizon. One Legendary executive even teased the possibility of Godzilla x Kong 2.
“This is certainly an exciting result,” Mary Parent, chairman of worldwide production for Legendary, said to The Hollywood Reporter. “We are in a good position to continue the journey, but let’s see how Godzilla x Kong unfolds. These are early days, but we are certainly feeling good.”
Who is Involved in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire?
Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed Godzilla vs. Kong. The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen.
The official synopsis reads: “This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence — and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
