Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have reportedly signed on to produce Eight Billion Genies for Amazon MGM Studios.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Rogen and Goldberg will produce an adaptation of Charles Soule and Ryan Browne’s Eight Billion Genies for Amazon MGM. The two of them will produce the film under their Point Grey Pictures banner with James Weaver, while Stephen Feder, Kiri Hart, Soule, and Brown will serve as executive producers.
Sneider also reports that Rodney Rothman, who co-wrote and co-directed 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, has been tapped to write the script for Eight Billion Genies.
What is Eight Billion Genies?
Eight Billion Genies is an eight-issue limited series published by Image Comics that launched in 2022.
“If you had one wish…what would you wish for?” the solicitation for the first issue reads. “Now, what if everyone else had one wish too? That’s Eight Billion Genies, the new eight-issue series from Charles Soule & Ryan Browne (Curse Words). At exactly the same moment, everyone on earth gets a genie and one wish. All hell breaks loose, in a very entertaining way…and that’s just the beginning. Buckle in for the wildest ride of the year!”
In June 2022, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Amazon had purchased the rights to adapt Eight Billion Genies. The deal, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s article, is “significant for the streamer as it involves not only feature films but series and more. The lofty mission for the property is for it to be the basis of an expansive cross-media universe, starting with a feature.”
No casting announcements have yet been made for Eight Billion Genies and there’s currently no word on who might be in talks to direct the movie.
Eight Billion Genies does not have a release date from Amazon at this time.
