Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire star Paul Rudd has discussed the experience of driving the iconic Ecto-1 car in the upcoming sequel.
Speaking with Total Film, Rudd explained how much he loved driving the Ecto-1, as there aren’t many vehicles like it. At the same time, he noted that the fear of crashing such an famous car quickly sinks in.
“To be in a Ghostbusters flight suit and driving the Ecto-1 was a real kick,” Rudd stated. “You know, there aren’t many of those vehicles around. It isn’t like they built them new for this movie. It’s pretty crazy to think, ‘This is the Ecto-1 from the original Ghostbusters and I get to drive it.’
“You’re thinking, ‘Holy shit.’ You’re thinking, ‘Wait, I’m actually driving the Ecto-1. This is the coolest thing ever.’ But then you’re thinking, ‘Don’t crash.’ You feel the weight of that thing, both literally and metaphorically, so it’s exciting and interesting.”
In addition to Rudd, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim. Original cast members returning for Frozen Empire include Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton.
Gil Keenan directs Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman. Reitman produces alongside his late father, Ivan, and Jason Blumenfeld. Executive producers include Kenan, Aykroyd, JoAnn Perritano, Amie Karp, Erica Mills, and Eric Reich. Frozen Empire will be released by Columbia Pictures under Sony Pictures Releasing.

“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level,” the official synopsis reads. “But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”
