The Mandalorian & Grogu Gets Massive Tax Credit, Will Be Shot in California

The Star Wars franchise will film a new entry entirely in California for the first time ever, according to a recent report from Deadline.

According to the new report, The Mandalorian & Grogu will receive a total of $21,755,000 in conditional tax credits for the previously announced film. This is one of the biggest allocations of tax credits ever given out by the California Film Commission, coming in at just under the $22.4 million that 2017’s Bumblebee received.

Due to the large tax break, the film is set to be filmed in its entirety in California, which marks a first for the Star Wars franchise. While it’s still unknown exactly what the film will be about, Jon Favreau is set to direct the film, with Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni producing.

Deadline’s report noted that it’s unclear if Pedro Pascal will star in the film, although he has starred in every season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian.

What is The Mandalorian about?

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu,” says the synopsis for Season 3. “Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

The series hails from executive producers Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, Karen Gilchrist, and Carrie Beck. Favreau served as showrunner and one of the third season’s directors. Seasons 1-3 are now available for streaming on Disney+.
