Berlin Season 2: Netflix Renews Money Heist Spin-off

Netflix has announced the Berlin Season 2 renewal of its first Money Heist spin-off, which centers around Pedro Alonso’s titular character. Further details about the next installment are still under wraps, but production is expected to begin in 2025.

The renewal comes after over a month since the 8-episode action prequel had made its debut. During its first week, it garnered 348 million hours viewed, making it one of Netflix’s most-watched shows worldwide.

“The spin-off focuses on an earlier period in Berlin’s life, which is touched upon in flashbacks in the later seasons of Money Heist,” reads the Season 1 synopsis. “Berlin says there are only two things that can turn a bad day into a great one: love and a million-dollar payday. This is what keeps him razor-focused on his lofty goals. So he’s preparing one of his most extreme heists yet — disappearing $44 million worth of jewels. But first, he’ll need to enlist the help of some savvy criminals: Keila, a cybersecurity mastermind; Damián, an academic and Berlin’s close friend; Cameron, a loose cannon who lives life on the edge; Roi, a locksmith and Berlin’s faithful sidekick; and Bruce, who’s fluent in gadgets and weaponry.”

Who’s involved in Berlin?

Berlin hails from Money Heist creators Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina. The series is written by Lobato, Pina, David Olivia, and David Berrocal, who is also set to become a director along with Geoffrey Cowper. Season 1 also starred Tristán Ulloa as Berlin’s confidant Damián, Michelle Jenner as electronics specialist Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce. The first installment also featured the return of Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri, who reprised their respective roles as Raquel and Alicia from the original series.

Pedro Alonso’s Berlin was introduced during the first installment of Money Heist. The character originally died during the first season’s finale. However, thanks to fan reception, Alonso was able to reprise the role in the final seasons, where he appeared in flashback scenes.
