Blumhouse Productions has delayed M3GAN 2.0’s release date.
Per Bloody Disgusting, M3GAN 2.0 was originally supposed to hit United States theaters on January 17, 2025; however, it has been bumped back to May 16, 2025.
Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are both reprising their roles in M3GAN 2.0, though further plot details remain under wraps at this time. Cooper is once again writing the script, while James Wan is producing the movie.
What was the first M3GAN movie about?
M3GAN was released in United States theaters in January 2023. Directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Cooper, the movie starred Williams, McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Jenna Davis, and Amie Donald.
“M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally,” the synopsis reads. “Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (McGraw), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”
M3GAN was a huge hit at the global box office, bringing in $181 million off of a budget of approximately $12 million.
McGraw told ComingSoon in a March 2023 interview about people’s reaction to M3GAN and the upcoming sequel, “I love that people are loving it. I think that it’s really funny, like I love Cady so much and I love that some people are calling her their favorite character and it makes me so grateful to be a part of such an amazing iconic film. But it was just really amazing. I was in shock when I like heard how fast M3GAN 2.0 was coming. I’m like, ‘Oh, already? Okay.’ But I’m so excited to work with that whole crew again. But I’m so glad people loved the film so much.”
M3GAN 2.0 hits United States theaters on May 16, 2025. M3GAN, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
