Donald Glover on Lando Movie: ‘I Know When Something’s Going To Be Good’

Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover has discussed why he agreed to take part in a Lando movie and the amount of control he’ll have over the it.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Glover revealed that he agreed to the Lando movie as his children love Star Wars. He also noted that he’ll have a fair amount of control over the project, allowing for a more singular vision.

“At this point, I just know when something’s going to be good, because you’re really fighting the industry when you [put your imprint on a franchise of that magnitude],” Glover explained. “And it’s not like … I was going to say, and it’s not like I hate the industry, but now I’m like, ‘Do I hate the industry?’ [Laughs]. I feel like I have enough control. And maybe you get painted as a control freak, but it’s like, yeah, control allows for the vision to be singular. And if the vision is singular, people want it more.”

When was the Lando project first announced?

The Lando Calrissian series was initially announced back at a Disney Investors Day presentation in 2020, with screenwriter Justin Simien (Dear White People) tabbed with developing the series. Since then, however, few details on the series were made public before it was revealed to be a movie.
