Saoirse Ronan Reveals Her Scrapped Barbie Cameo

Ladbybird star Saoirse Ronan has revealed some details about the character she was set to play in Barbie before being unable to due to scheduling conflicts.

In an interview with Variety, Ronan was asked if she knew who she would have played in Barbie for her planned cameo. The actress explained that she would have worked alongside Kate McKinnon as a “Weird Barbie” who might have talked to herself and her dog.

“I was definitely going to be a Weird Barbie,” Ronan said. “I don’t know how to take that. I would have been with Kate McKinnon, so that would have been nice. I had a scene but didn’t ever get to do it, and it wasn’t in the movie … I can’t even remember now, but it was weird. I think I’d be the strange girl who talked to herself and always had her pet dog with her and always talked to the dog and wouldn’t look at anyone.”

Who wrote Barbie?

Barbie was directed by Gerwig from a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach. It starred Margot RobbieRyan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, and more. During its theatrical run, it earned a worldwide gross of over $1.4 billion.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken,” reads the movie’s synopsis.
