Coen Brothers Working on New Project

Reports of the Coen Brothers‘ split up seem to have been greatly exaggerated after one-half of the iconic filmmaking duo recently revealed they are currently working on something together.

Speaking to Empire, Ethan Coen — who is currently set to release the comedy road film Drive-Away Dolls — revealed that he and his brother Joel are currently “working on writing something” together again.

The news echoes comments from Ethan that he also made to Empire last year, where he confirmed that he and his brother weren’t going their separate ways forever and that the pair were going to work on something in the future.

While Coen did note that the pair are writing together, it’s unknown whether or not that means they’ll be making whatever they write. Previously, the pair have written scripts that they haven’t made, including 2017’s Suburbicon, which was co-written by the pair and directed by George Clooney, with additional writing credits to Clooney and Grant Heslov.

The Coen Brothers have a history of incredible work together

Ethan and Joel Coen, known mostly as the Coen Brothers, are two of the most iconic filmmakers working today. Their filmography includes films like Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Are Thou?, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, and True Grit, to name a few.

Their last project as a pair as of now came in 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs for Netflix, a film that went on to earn three nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, and Best Original Song (“When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings”).

In 2019, the pair seemingly split up to pursue other projects, with Joel Coen going on to direct The Tragedy of Macbeth, and Ethan working on Drive-Away Dolls. While many thought the pair would be split up for good, thankfully the brotherly duo still plan on working together.
