Steven Soderbergh’s New Movie, Black Bag, Reportedly Searching for a Distributor

Steven Soderbergh is reportedly searching for a distributor for his latest movie, Black Bag.

According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Soderbergh has landed on Black Bag as his next project. No further details were given and it’s unclear whether or not Soderberg is writing the film; however, Apple Studios and Focus Features are reportedly both interested in picking up the distribution rights.

Meanwhile, Soderbergh’s Presence is premiering at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The movie, which is written by David Koepp, stars Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Chris Sullivan, Callina Lang, Edday Maday, and West Mulholland.

According to The New York Times, the movie follows “a family that moves into a suburban home and discovers they are not alone.” Presence does not yet have a nationwide release date in the United States.

What other movies has Steven Soderbergh made?

Soderbergh’s first feature film as a director was 1989’s Sex, Lies, and Videotape for Miramax Films. He went on to direct Kafka in 1991 for Miramax before he then made 1993’s King of the Hill, 1995’s The Underneath, 1996’s Schizopolis, and 1996’s Gray’s Anatomy.

He began making more mainstream movies after that, starting with 1998’s Out of Sight, starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, and 2000’s Erin Brockovich with Julia Roberts and Albert Finney.

Following that, Soderbergh made Traffic in 2000, which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director. He went on to launch the Ocean’s franchise — 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven, 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve, and 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen — while also making movies such as 2002’s Solaris, 2009’s The Informant!, 2011’s Contagion, and more.

In addition to helming Warner Bros.’ Magic Mike movies, Soderbergh has also made movies like 2017’s Logan Lucky, 2018’s Unsane, 2019’s Let Them All Talk, 2021’s No Sudden Move, and 2022’s Kimi in recent years.
