Barbie: Greta Gerwig Comments on if We’ll See a Ken Spin-off Movie

Barbie director and writer Greta Gerwig has spoken about whether or not there could ever be a Ken spin-off movie about the male doll in the future.

CBS’ 60 Minutes spoke with Gerwig and Noah Baumbach about the acclaimed film and its characters. The filmmaker revealed that while making the movie, there was plenty of material for Ken that didn’t make it into the final draft.

“We had way too much material for Ken,” Gerwig stated. “We would write, and write, and write.”

Upon hearing this, the interviewer asked if there could ever be a Ken movie. This question led Gerwig to tease the possibility “with a smile.”

“I mean, the truth is, you know … I guess we’ll see,” the director stated.

Who starred in Barbie?

Barbie was directed by Gerwig from a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach. It starred Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Will Ferrell, Helen Mirren, Dua Lipa, and more. During its theatrical run, it earned a worldwide gross of over $1.4 billion, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2023.

“To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken,” reads the movie’s synopsis.
