Chris Evans is open to returning to his iconic role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but says no one has approached him about it yet.
During a recent appearance on The View (via TheWrap), Evans was asked about rumors that Marvel Studios was thinking about bringing back the cast of the original Avengers film. Evans said if they were, he had no idea, and that those types of rumors are just always popping up.
“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me. I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and Hemsworth, and Scarlet [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!”
While Evans hasn’t heard any rumors like that, that doesn’t mean he’s opposed to the idea, however.
“No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.”
Evans has spoke about returning as Captain America in the past
Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Evans has been asked about returning to the MCU. During an appearance at the 2023 C2E2 convention, Evans once again reiterated that, while there probably are more Steve Rogers stories to tell, it’s a “tough” thing to do due to how precious the character is to him.
“God, it’s tough. Look, I love that role deeply, it means so much to me. Do I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell? Sure, but at the same time, I’m very very precious about it,” Evans said (via The Pop Verse), while also noting that accepting the role of Captain America was “the best decision of my life.”
Earlier this month, Variety reported that Marvel Studios was considering bringing back the original Avengers team — Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Evans’ Captain America — for a new ensemble picture.
