Die Hard Theatrical Rerelease Date Announced by AMC

Just in time for the upcoming holiday festivities, Die Hard — the classic action film many consider to be a Christmas flick — will be coming back to select AMC theatres on December 8.

While many still debate as to whether or not the Bruce Willis-led film is a Christmas classic, the actor settled the long-standing debate in 2018. Now, many fans are in their “Yippee-Ki-Yay” mode as the beloved John McTiernan-directed action film will be coming back to cinema this December.

What is Die Hard about, and why is it considered a Christmas movie?

Die Hard follows New York City cop John McClane (Willis) as he joins a holiday party at the office where his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) works. However, the seemingly festive event takes a violent turn when a group of terrorists holds everyone inside hostage. As soon as McClane realizes no one will save them, he takes matters into his own hands.

While Die Hard, on the surface, is an action movie, the fact that the story took place during Christmas made audiences consider it one of the Christmas classics. Many also debate that, apart from the film incorporating Christmas music, it is also a movie about a man who was just trying to make it home for Christmas.

Starring alongside Willis and Bedelia are Alexander Godunov as Karl, Reginald VelJohnson as Al Powell, Paul Gleason as Dwayne T. Robinson, Clarence Gilyard as Theo, and the late Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber.

The 1988 film also spawned a few iterations, including Die Hard 2 in 1990, Die Hard with a Vengeance in 1995, Live Free or Die Hard in 2007, and A Good Day to Die Hard in 2013.

You can purchase an advance ticket for Die Hard through AMC Theatres’ official website
